Bahasa Inggris > Lembaga Pengelola Beasiswa Sedau (LEPBESIS) otherwise known as The Sedau                    Scholarship Fund is a non-profit organisation which is dedicated to providing scholarships to children who are living below the poverty line at Kampong Sedau. Kampong Sedau contains nine villages with a population of 24000, of which 90% are of Chinese ethnic origin.  It is part of the regency of South Singkawang in West Kalimantan (Borneo), Indonesia.

There are more than 2000 children in Kampong Sedau living below the poverty line. A lot of them are subjected to sub-standard living conditions, whereby they are forced to live in dirt-floor huts. The walls are made of bamboo, palm leaves and other poor quality materials. These dwellings provide no protection against harsh weather conditions or intruders. They also contain no electricity and running water.

As things stand now, many children are expected to drop out of school. Some are even quitting during their primary (elementary) school years due to the inability to pay their fees. It is very likely these children will grow up facing an uncertain future. 

At LEPBESIS, we are quite concerned about this self-perpetuating state of affairs. This is why we have begun a scholarship program for children in primary school who cannot continue their studies due to financial difficulties. We are currently looking for sympathetic donors who wish to sponsor a child through to the end of primary school. We accept cash or money order (Western Union) donations of any amount. Our purpose at LEPBESIS is to ensure that as many children as possible finish primary school, so that they can attain a level of basic education in order to function in their everyday lives.

Bahasa Mandarin > 亚答港助学基金(LEPBESIS)是在印尼注册的非牟利慈善组织，为亚答港(Sedau)地区的贫困儿童提供助学金计划。亚答港地区位于印尼西加里曼丹省山口洋市南部，共有九条村落，人口约二万四千人，其中百分之九十是华裔。

当地经济落后，逾二千名儿童生活在赤贫之中。他们住在用竹或棕榈树叶搭成的简陋房屋，没有水电供应之余，更要面对天灾人祸的威胁，生活环境恶劣。

由于没有能力支付学费，很多儿童甚至连基本的小学课程也没法完成便被迫辍学。对他们来说，前途一片茫然。

我们对于这个长久以来的情况深感关注，因此在二零零七年成立了这个助学基金，希望透过各地善心人士的捐助，向当地因经济困难而未能完成小学课程的儿童施予援手，让他们完成小学课程，打好最起码的教育基础，改善生活。

Bahasa INDO > Lembaga Pengelola Beasiswa Sedau(LEPBESIS) adalah lembaga swadaya masyarakat ,non profit organisasi, berorientasi masalah sosial khusus dibidang pendidikan di Kelurahan Sedau,Kecamatan Singkawang Selatan, Kalimantan Barat.Kelurahan Sedau terdiri atas 9 dusun,luas daerah mendekati14.375ha dengan total populasi kurang lebih 24 ribu jiwa.Sembilan puluh persen dari populasi kelurahan Sedau beretnis Tionghoa.Sebagian besar dari penduduk kelurahan ini hidup dibawah garis kemiskinan,terutama mereka yang hidup di pinggiran dusun.

Menurut data yang kami miliki,di kelurahan Sedau lebih dari 2000 anak akan terancam kelangsungan studi(ditingkat Sekolah Dasar) mereka mulai sekarang atau kelak karena sosial ekonomi yang mereka miliki itu sangat  lemah .Tanpa bantuan ekonomi sebagian besar dari mereka akan tidak berhasil menyelesaikan studi di tingkat Sekolah Dasar.

Melihat realitas kehidupan anak-anak dari keluarga miskin di kelurahan Sedau ini,ada sebagian dari masyarakat kelurahan Sedau ini merasa kemanusiaannya  terpanggil untuk membantu anak-anak tersebut,untuk tujuan itu LEPBESIS terbentuk.

Visi LEPBESIS adalah setiap anak dari keluarga miskin yang ada di kelurahan Sedau harus dapat menyelesaikan sekolah dasar.Misi kami adalah menyediakan beasiswa untuk anak –anak tersebut sehingga mereka dapat meyelesaikan pelajarannya,membuat hari esok yang lebih baik untuk mereka.
